Chopsticks for Beirut
Chopsticks for Beirut
On a free weekend in August, I decided to create some good. After reading of the blast in Beirut I could not sit idle knowing so many are suffering. Some have asked me “why” care about this when suffering closer to home also need aid. That is true, and all I can say is that I hold the same heart for the suffering regardless of where the hurt resides. Here or there… the pain is not a matter for comparing. It’s instead a reminder to do what you can, when you can, and this weekend my heart is with Beirut
Chopsticks for Beirut- So here’s the deal. This project became more personal for me after posting about the effort on social medial. An old friend from grad school reached out and thanked me for attempting to provide relief. She then alerted me to the fact that she has been living in Lebanon for the past 13 years. Although she is not in Beirut, she has called that small country home for over a decade and the economic strife mixed with Covid-19 cases and now a massive explosion… well, honestly, I’m lost for words. I can’t fix it. I can’t hug her, and truthfully, I can’t event begin to relate as I am here comfortably inside my home, riding out the weekend in relative peace. But I do relate. Not to the tragedy of what is being experienced there, but to the sorrow and defeat that lingers when life doesn’t go according to plan.
These chopsticks aren’t going to save the world but I believe an act of kindness can save the day. If you have it in you to give a care, please buy a pair of these chopsticks. It directly helps support my cost of living and encourages me to keep going. It equally restores my hope that we together can make a difference. 50% Of your purchase from these chopsticks will go to Arcenciel, a non-profit organization in Lebanon providing emergency relief in Beirut.
