Pleiades Slotted Wooden Spoon
Pleiades Slotted Wooden Spoon
Hand carved, slotted wooden spoon, crafted from reclaimed wood and turned into functional kitchen art.
The Pleiades Slotted Wooden Spoon is a simple spoon, carved from salvaged wood scraps and transformed into functional kitchen art. Saved from the waste stream, this spoon emerged from a piece of wood dimpled with tiny holes and organic markings that reflect the passage of time. After carving out the general shape, I bored seven holes making it a slotted spoon for honey dipping, olive jar dives, other other such accouterments. The seven holes reminded me of the Seven Sisters of Pleiades, the star cluster said to be the daughters of Atlas (titan of the sky) and Pleione (protectress of sailing), hence the name Pleiades.
Reclaimed, small wooden spoon with a slotted bowl and thin handle.
Hand carved and one-of-a-kind.
Measure approximately 9 inches long from end to end with a bowl width of 1 1/4 inches.
